Previously root canal treatment was done with the naked eye but remember we are dealing with the tiniest part of the oral cavity i.e nerves within the root canal which are very small in nature.
Performing such a procedure without any magnification can lead to a lot of work and complications.
Evolution of Magnification
Loupes – it helps in magnification of the tooth but the magnification is limited.
-it can be used for simple processor as Oral prophylaxis ( removal of Tartar), simple feeling, bonding of brackets.

Microscope –
Using of dental operating microscope allows magnification up to 15-25X, at this level it is very easy to visualize all the surface and helps in delicate procedures such as root canal treatment. Which helps the clinician to deliver the best treatment possible by minimalizing the error.
In case of new injury or inflammation it lead to infection of previously treated tooth which may in terms lead to repetition of endodontics procedure which is known as re-root canal.
